The purpose of this
article is to give trawler yacht owners and those considering purchasing a vessel
for long range cruising a reasonable understanding of the factors affecting
the propulsive efficiency of propeller driven craft and the means of making
a comparison between different designs. In particular screw propeller design
and the means of power transmission are covered in some detail. These factors
have the biggest influence on the propulsive efficiency of power craft and are
about the only area where improvements are possible.
